BOSTON – Maine was dominant, UAlbany managed to extend its win streak to 14 games, while New Hampshire and Binghamton came away with crucial victories on Saturday. The results set up a battle between the unbeaten Black Bears and Great Danes this coming Thursday in Albany.
UAlbany 64, Bryant 62 – Box Score
The Bulldogs nearly ended one of the longest win streaks in the nation, taking a one point lead in the fourth quarter. It was back-and-forth in the final period and Mariona Planes Fortuny made it 59-57 with just 1:21 left. However, Kayla Cooper powered her way to consecutive layups and the Great Danes held on for a two-point win. Cooper finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Lilly Phillips added 13. Planes Fortuny had 26 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for Bryant.
New Hampshire 56, UMBC 37 – Box Score
The Wildcats earned their second conference victory in convincing fashion on Saturday. They trailed UMBC 23-21 at the half, but outscored the Retrievers 35-14 in the second half and held them scoreless over the final eight minutes of the contest to earn the victory. Maggie Cavanaugh came through with 13 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Bella Stuart had ten points. Trinity Palacio tallied 11 points and four rebounds for UMBC.
Maine 81, NJIT 39 – Box Score
It was an offensive explosion for the Black Bears, who jumped out to a 49-25 lead over NJIT at the half thanks to hot shooting from Caroline Bornemann. They didn’t led up in the second half on the way to a 42-point victory. Maine finished with 43 rebounds and 21 assists as a team, led by Bornemann with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Adrianna Smith added ten points, ten rebounds and six assists. Alejandra Zuniga paced NJIT with 15 points.
Binghamton 70, UMass Lowell 65 – Box Score
The Bearcats earned their first conference win by outscoring UMass Lowell 23-15 in the fourth quarter. Binghamton trailed 50-47 through 30 minutes, but the offense came alive in the final period to grab a five-point lead midway through the quarter and the defense did the rest for the win. Denai Bowman finished with 21 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while Jadyn Weltz added 20 points and three steals. Rayne Durant led UMass Lowell with 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
