Men's #AEHoops Week 8: League Play Begins Saturday

BOSTON – Only a handful of non-league games took place in between Christmas and New Year’s day but conference play kicks off on Saturday. All games matter with the top four teams in the league standings at the end of the regular-season earning home games in the #AEPlayoffs.

  • Seven of the America East’s nine men’s basketball programs are over .500.
  • The nine schools have combined to go 67-57 (.540) so far this season.
  • The 67 non-league wins are the most since the 2008-09 season.
  • UAlbany (8-7) has already matched last season’s win total. The Great Danes defeated LIU 86-69, on Thursday behind 21 points, 12 rebounds and six assists from Jonathan Beagle.
  • Binghamton has won four of its last five games. Its eight non-league wins is its most since the 2017-18 campaign.
  • UNH has won four of its last five its last four games including a 91-81 win at Rhode Island on Thursday. Clarence Daniels led the way with 27 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Earl Timberlake had a triple-double of 15 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over Drexel on Dec. 22. It was the first triple-double by an America East player in nearly seven years.
  • Kjell de Graaf tallied 15 points, seven boards and seven blocks to lead NJIT to a 69-53 victory over Morgan State on Sunday. The seven blocks are the most by an America East player since UMass Lowell’s Max Brooks had 10 on Jan. 12, 2022.
  • Conference play kicks off with four games on January 6 including New Hampshire hosting UMass Lowell in a battle of two teams that met in last year’ America East playoff semifinals.
America East Links Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops game this season regardless of where they live! The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.
 
The UMBC at Vermont matchup on Jan. 11 was announced as a nationally televised contest.

The men’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 18.

Player of the Week
Jonathan Beagle, UAlbany – So., Forward, Hudson Falls, N.Y.                             
  • Led the Great Danes to a win over LIU on Thursday by contributing 21 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and two steals in 37 minutes of action.
  • Shot 73 percent from the field (8-of-11).
  • This is Beagle’s first men’s #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Gavin Walsh, Binghamton – Fr., Forward, Baltimore, Md.
  • Tallied a career-high 19 points and added nine rebounds in Binghamton’s win over Marywood on Saturday.
  • This is Walsh’s first career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
