Women's Basketball 1/15/2024 10:56:46 AM Women's #AEHoops Week 10: UAlbany & Maine Remain Unbeaten BOSTON – UMass Lowell stretched its win streak to three with a pair of wins, while Vermont and Bryant also won twice last week. UAlbany and Maine each earned a victory in their lone contest to stay unbeaten in #AEHoops action. The Week That Was The River Hawks opened the week with a 70-67 victory over NJIT and followed it up with an impressive 59-46 win on the road at UMBC. Freshman Rayne Durant had 16 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s win. UVM also went 2-0 last week, using an impressive second half to down UMBC 70-55 and then beat NJIT on the road 68-55. Bryant improved to 2-2 in #AEHoops action with two wins last week. The Bulldogs beat Binghamton 62-51 and then edged UNH 55-54. UAlbany won its only game of the week, edging Binghamton 60-58 for a 3-0 start to conference play and its 10th straight win overall. Maine pushed its #AEHoops mark to 3-0 with a 78-52 victory over UNH, thanks to a dominant effort from Adrianna Smith. Looking Ahead The River Hawks look to keep up their winning ways this week with a pair of home games. They welcome unbeaten UAlbany on Thursday at 11 a.m. and then Binghamton on Saturday. Maine is still unbeaten and hosts UMBC and NJIT this week. Vermont seeks to extend its conference mark to 4-1 when the team hosts Binghamton on Thursday, while UNH is home against NJIT and UMBC this week. Bryant welcomes UAlbany on Saturday, looking for its third straight win. The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. The women’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 19. 2023-24 Weekly Award Winners (Jan. 15) Player of the Week Adrianna Smith, Maine – Jr., Forward, Reston, VA Totaled 28 points, 15 rebounds and four assists in a win over UNH. Shot 69.0 percent from the floor and went 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the 32 minutes. Also added one steal and one block. This is Smith’s second #AEHoops Player of the Week honor this year. Rookie of the Week Rayne Durant, UMass Lowell – Fr., Forward, New Haven, Conn. Averaged 15.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week. Finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks in a win over NJIT. Had a career-high 16 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a win over UMBC. This is Durant’s first #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
