Women’s #AEHoops Matinees Highlight Thursday Action

BOSTON – Two games dates into #AEHoops action and there are still three teams undefeated in conference play. This week’s action begins with three 11 a.m. matinees and one 7 p.m. contest.
 
All games during conference play can be found on ESPN+ or ESPN3 on the AE of ESPN Home Page in the United States. Fans located internationally can watch all the action on AmericaEast.TV.

Vermont (9-7, 1-1 AE) at UMBC (6-8, 2-0 AE) – 11 AM
  • The Catamounts and Retrievers face off in a rematch of last year’s #AEPlayoffs Semifinals, when UVM earned the 75-63 victory. UMBC was 1 of 2 teams to beat the Catamounts last year, taking them down 58-57 at home last season.
  • This season the Retrievers are coming off a 64-63, last-second victory over Bryant to improve to 2-0 in conference play. UVM, meanwhile, is 1-1 following a 60-48 defeat at the hands of Maine.
  • Anna Blount leads the UMBC with 12.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while Trinity Palacio is averaging 13.8 points & 3.3 assists per game over the last four contests.
  • For UVM,  Emma Utterback is averaging 15.3 points and 4.7 assist per game  while Anna Olson is at 10.8 points and 5.9 rebounds.

Bryant (7-8, 0-2 AE) at Binghamton (5-9, 0-1 AE) – 11 AM
  • The Bulldogs and Bearcats are both winless in conference play and feature two of the best three-point shooters in the league. Bryant is coming off a one-point loss to UMBC, while Binghamton fell 70-55 to the Retrievers to begin conference play.
  • Last year Binghamton earned the sweep, winning by one points and by 11 points.
  • Ella Wanzer leads the team with 12.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while ranking second in the league with 42 threes. Jadyn Weltz is second on the team with 10.6 points 4.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.
  • Mia Mancini ranks second in the league, averaging 15.3 points per game thanks to 53 triples, while Mariona Planes Fortuny is putting up 14.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.

UMass Lowell (1-13, 1-1 AE) at NJIT (8-6, 0-1 AE) – 11 AM
  • The River Hawks earned their first victory of the season on Saturday, shooting past New Hampshire 70-53. The Highlanders, meanwhile, suffered a tough 77-36 defeat to UAlbany.
  • Last year NJIT earned the sweep and has won five straight meetings against UMass Lowell overall.
  • Alejandra Zuniga leads NJIT, averaging 14.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Trinity Williams has been strong inside with 9.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.
  • Mili Carrera paces the River Hawks with 9.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Sydney Watkins has been strong all over the court with 6.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.4 steals per game.

Maine (9-7, 2-0 AE) at New Hampshire (6-9, 0-2 AE) – 6:03 PM
  • The Black Bears improved to 2-0 in conference play with an impressive 60-48 victory over Vermont on Saturday. The Wildcats, meanwhile, are 0-2 after losing to both Vermont and UMass Lowell.
  • Last year Maine earned the sweep over UNH and has won six in a row against the Wildcats. This marks the 103rd meeting between the two programs.
  • Anne Simon leads the league in scoring (19.3), while also averaging 7.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.4 steals per game for Maine. Adrianna Smith leads #AEHoops in rebounding (10.6) while also averaging 14.6 points and 4.5 assists per game.
  • Eight UNH players are averaging at least 4.0 points per game, led by Avery O’Connor with 8.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Clara Gomez is putting up 5.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.7 assist and 1.7 steals per game.
