Men’s #AEHoops Returns on Thursday Evening

BOSTON – Thursday’s action is highlighted by a national TV appearance for the league as Vermont welcomes UMBC for 7 PM contest in Patrick Gymnasium on ESPNU. In other action, UMass Lowell and Bryant both look to stay unbeaten in #AEHoops play.

UMBC (5-11, 0-1 AE) at Vermont (11-5, 1-0 AE) – 7 PM (ESPNU)
  • The Catamounts host another nationally televised game as they look to extend their nation-leading 16-game conference winning streak after taking down Maine 65-58 on Saturday. UMBC is coming off a 14-point loss to Bryant.
  • Vermont swept the Retrievers last year, though only 1 of 10 starters from last year’s second matchup will be suiting up on Thursday (Matt Veretto).
  • Six players are averaging over 8.0 points per game for UVM, led by TJ Long at 12.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Shamir Bogues has done it all to the tune of 10.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game for the Catamounts.
  • Dion Brown is fourth in the league in scoring (16.8) and 10th in rebounding (6.0), while Khydarius Smith is putting up 12.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for UMBC.

New Hampshire (8-6, 0-1 AE) at Maine (8-8, 0-1 AE) – 6 PM
  • Both UNH and Maine are coming off losses, as the Wildcats fell 82-75 at home against UML, while the Black Bears dropped a 65-58 decision at Vermont.
  • UNH swept Maine last season, winning both games by double digits. This will be the 224th all-time meeting between the teams.
  • Kellen Tynes has paced Maine with 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game, while Peter Filipovity is putting up 13.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest.
  • Clarence Daniels leads the league in scoring (19.9), and is second in rebounding (9.5). He’s also shooting over 40% from three. Newcomer Ahmad Robinson has been impressive averaging 15.6 points, 5.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

  • The River Hawks opened conference play with a tough road victory (82-75) over UNH, while NJIT dropped a 79-73 decision to UAlbany, despite leading by one at the half.
  • Overall NJIT is 7-8 all-time against the River Hawks, but dropped both games last season, falling by three points and 29 points.
  • Ayinde Hikim leads five players averaging double figures for the River Hawks. He is putting up 15.9 points, 5.0 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game, while Max Brooks is a force all over the court with 11.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.
  • Four players are averaging double figures for NJIT, led by Adam Hess at 12.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 42.0% from three. Reigning Rookie of the Week Tariq Francis is at 10.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

Binghamton (8-5, 0-0 AE) at Bryant (9-7, 1-0 AE) – 7 PM
  • The Bulldogs got a career-high 41 points from Sherif Gross-Bullock to take down UMBC by 14 on the road, while Binghamton is playing its first conference contest having won four of its last five games.
  • Last season the two teams split their matchups, with each team winning at home. Bryant won by four while the Bearcats earned a 17-point victory.
  • Gross-Bullock is up to second in the league in scoring, averaging 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Earl Timberlake does it all, putting up 12.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.4 steals per game.
  • Binghamton has six players averaging at least 8.0 points per game, led by Tymu Chenery at 14.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. Symir Torrence fills up the stat sheet with 9.2 points, 7.2 assist and 6.0 rebounds per game.
