BOSTON - All six #AEVB teams earned at least one win to combine for a 13-6 record in Week 3. NJIT is the only team to go unbeaten on the week, while the Bearcats and Bulldogs are the only teams to amass 3 wins from last week's play.
This week's action begins Wednesday with Bryant and NJIT, and concludes Sunday with Binghamton and UMBC. All together, 18 matches are scheduled to be played this week.
2023 #AEVB Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 12
Player of the Week:
Tsvetelina Ilieva, Binghamton – Sr., Outside Hitter, Sofia, Bulgaria
- Helped lead the Bearcats to a 3-1 week after racking up 77 kills, 43 digs, and 93.5 points and also earned Lehigh Steel Classic All-Tournament honors.
- Currently leads the nation in service aces (23) adding 11 to her total, highlighted by her 6 vs. Le Moyne
Rookie of the Week:
Julija Grubisic Cabo, UMBC – Fr., Outside Hitter, Maribor, Slovenia
- Had the best matches of her young career tallying 42 kills, 37 digs, and 50.5 points.
- In a win over defending Ivy League champs Princeton, recorded a career-best 17 kills, 12 digs, and a .389 hitting pct.
Setter of the Week:
Zosia Szczotkiewicz, UAlbany – Jr., Setter, Walcz, Poland
- Totaled 88 assits and 24 digs to average 8.8 and 2.4 per set.
- In a 4-set win over Cornell, tallied 46 assists and helped the team to a .222 hitting pct.
Defensive Specialist of the Week:
Avery LePore, UNH – So., Libero/D.S., Franklin, Tenn.
- Earned All-Tournament honors at James Madison after ending the weekend with 65 digs for a 6.5 per set average.
- Had her career best game vs. Cal Poly, recording 32 digs and helped limit the team to a .176 hitting pct.
- This is LePore's third straight #AEVB weekly honor this season.
