Weekend Preview: Aug. 31 - Sept. 4

BOSTON – It’s a holiday weekend full of America East action as cross country opens its season while soccer, field hockey and volleyball are in the thick of non-conference play. Check out previews of each sport below so you don’t miss the top games of the weekend!
 
Cross Country - Schedule
Maine hosts conference foes Bryant and New Hampshire on Friday in a preview of the conference championship to be held on Oct. 27, while UMass Lowell and UVM race a day later in Vermont. UMBC is at the Mount St. Mary Duals, while Binghamton competes at the Harry Lang Invitational
 
Men’s Soccer - Schedule
Game of the Weekend: #22 Vermont hosts Cornell, who was ranked at #20 to start the season, on Friday evening at 6 PM. Both teams reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago and UVM has scored 2 or more goals in 11 of its last 12 home contests. 

All eight programs are in action this weekend, beginning with No. 19 New Hampshire, who looks to keep its record unbeaten when the Wildcats play at William & Mary on Thursday at 1 PM, before hosting Cornell on Monday at 4 PM. #22 UVM hosts the Big Red on Friday and then Colgate on Sunday as the Catamounts look to rebound from a road loss last week. Bryant seeks to run its record to a perfect 3-0 as the Bulldogs play at Merrimack on Thursday. NJIT, UAlbany, UMBC and Binghamton are also in action this weekend as six teams currently have a record of .500 or better.
 
Field Hockey - Schedule
Game of the Weekend: On Sunday #19 UAlbany hosts #7 Iowa at 12 PM. The Great Danes are 1-1 on the season while Iowa is 2-0 and coming off a victory against #1 North Carolina in overtime last weekend. UAlbany. Sophia Schoonmaker scored a pair of goals in the Great Danes' win last Sunday.

National Offensive Player of the Week Tasmin Cookman leads UNH to face Ohio State, followed by a Sunday contest against Ball State. Bryant is 2-0 for the first time in 20+ years and looks to make it 3-0 at Providence on Friday, while Maine hosts Boston U. and Ohio on Friday & Sunday. Vermont and UMass Lowell are both at home on Friday, while UC Davis and Cal face #4 Michigan and #5 Penn State on Friday. Stanford faces the Nittany Lions on Sunday, looking for its first win of the year.  
 
Women’s Soccer - Schedule
Game of the Weekend: UMBC is 2-2 and faces off against crosstown rival Towson tonight at 6 PM. The Retrievers are looking to take down the Tigers who are a perfect 3-0 on the season and seek their first 4-0 start in program history.

It’s a full Thursday night of action as all nine programs are in action and then eight more play on Sunday. Maine (3-0-1) is the lone unbeaten team in the conference and battles with Merrimack on the road, while UMass Lowell and Binghamton seek their first wins of the year against Stonehill and Le Moyne. Bryant, NJIT and Vermont are all at home, while New Hampshire and UAlbany take to the road. On Sunday, UMBC, UMass Lowell and NJIT are all at home. New Hampshire is on the road at UConn, while Maine, Binghamton, Vermont and Bryant are also on the road Sunday.
 
Volleyball - Schedule
Matches of the Weekend: Binghamton went 3-0 last weekend and looks to keep up the strong start with matches against Montana, DePaul and Buffalo this weekend in Buffalo, N.Y. The Bearcats look to down host Buffalo from the ranks of the unbeaten after hitting .262 as a team after will all three of their matches last weekend.

NJIT has claimed two straight wins and looks to keep the run going as they face Seton Hall, George Mason and Saint Peter’s this weekend. Reigning champion UMBC is on the road again with matches against Sacred Heart and Fairfield, while 3-1 New Hampshire faces Holy Cross, Harvard and Stonehill. Bryant hosts a trio of matches, facing Siena, Lafayette and Northeastern. UAlbany travels to Michigan for contests against Central Michigan, Bradley and Saint Louis.
