BOSTON - All teams earned a win in the opening weekend of #AEVB. Binghamton started their season unbeaten after going 3-0 in the Binghamton Bearcat Classic, while UNH is the only other team to earn multiple wins after going 2-1 at the Indiana Invitational.
NJIT kicks off this week's play as they travel to take on Central Conn. State tonight at 7 pm, but action ramps up later on in the week as each team is set to compete in multiple matches between Friday and Saturday.
2023 #AEVB Weekly Award Winners – Aug. 29
Player of the Week:
Mia Bilusic, UMBC – Jr., Outside Hitter, Zagreb, Croatia
- Had a double-double and .300 hitting pct. in two matches this weekend.
- Amassed a total of 45 kills and 24 digs in the Retrievers opening weekend.
Rookie of the Week:
Ella Schabort, Binghamton – Fr., Outside Hitter, Perth, Australia
- In her debut weekend, helped lead the team to go undefeated at the Binghamton Bearcat Classic and earned All-Tournament honors.
- Totaled 31 kills and 22 digs across 3 matches, highlighted by her double-double 17 kills and 10 digs vs. Duquesne.
Setter of the Week:
Aysia Miller, UMBC – Sr., Libero, Mililani, Hawaii
- Tallied 22 kills, 76 assists, and 35 digs at the JMU Invitational, earning herself a spot on the All-Tournament team.
- Recorded a double-double in each match, including an impressive 30 assists and 15 digs vs. Big South Preseason favorite, High Point.
Defensive Specialist of the Week:
Avery LePore, UNH – So., Libero/D.S., Franklin, Tenn.
- Helped the Wildcats to earn a 2-1 record on the weekend, holding each team to a hitting pct. of .160 or less.
- Recorded 58 digs throughout the invitational to earn a 5.8 dig per set average.
