BOSTON – On Friday, the 2023 #AEFH campaign gets underway with eight programs opening the season. All nine America East teams play twice during the opening weekend of action.
No. 19 UAlbany hosts UMass to begin its conference title defense and then plays Stonehill at home on Sunday. Last year’s #AEFH runner-up Stanford welcomes No. 3 Maryland on Friday and then No. 16 Rutgers on Sunday as the Cardinal look to make an early statement.
Last year’s regular season champion Maine hosts No. 17 Boston College on Friday, while UMass Lowell, Vermont, New Hampshire, UC Davis and California are all home for their first contests of the season. UC Davis battles No. 16 Rutgers. Bryant starts on Saturday, traveling to St. Louis and Lindenwood this weekend.
On Sunday, the River Hawks travel to play No. 11 Saint Joseph’s, while Vermont hosts No. 8 Syracuse and California welcomes the No. 3 Terrapins to Berkeley. Maine and New Hampshire are also in actual at home, facing Providence and Michigan State.
The opening weekend of contests concludes on Monday as Cal faces Rutgers and UC Davis takes on Maryland.
America East field hockey has a storied history of success with 31 #AEFH student-athletes having been named All-Americans over the past eight seasons, dating back to when UAlbany great Paula Heuser was named National Player of the Year. The conference has totaled 16 NCAA tournament wins all time with three squads reaching the Final Four, including UAlbany in 2014.
Fans will once again be able to watch nearly every #AEFH contest this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.
