ALBANY, N.Y. – The 2023 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships came to a close this evening. The River Hawks were crowned America East Men's Outdoor Champions for the first time in conference history with a total of 198 points. The UAlbany women’s team remains dominant, taking home the trophy with 218.50 points for the 14th consecutive year.

Today’s championship was highlighted by 3 new meet records, first time winners and many more standout performances from the #AETF teams. Starting the day off strong the Great Danes men’s 4x100 team broke their own record previously set last year finishing with a time of 40.61.
Travis Williams of UAlbany then went on to set a new meet record in the 100m. The 100m champion ran a 10.22 breaking a record set back in 2014. Williams then won in the 200m dash and helped his team with their record breaking 4x100 relay which earned him the Most Outstanding Track Performer title as well as earning the most points and receiving the Coaches’ Award.
Men’s long jump champion, Louis Gordon received the Most Outstanding Field Performer award after setting a new meet record in the long jump, jumping a distance of 25' 4½" and also taking home bronze in the high jump.
First time America East Champion, Michael Marshall of Bryant became the new high jump champion after a jump off against last year’s champion and the 2023 indoor champion, Kevin McGrath.
Leann Nicholas placed first and broke a 14-year-old record in the women’s triple jump. Her distance of 43' 4½" brought her the Most Outstanding Field Performer title.
The UAlbany men’s 4x800 team took gold setting a new meet record that has stood since 2017 with a time of 7:31.52.
Derek Munroe of UMass Lowell finished first in the decathlon and earned Most Outstanding Rookie honors.
Jazmen Newberry capped a standout debut for the Great Danes earning Most Outstanding Track Performer, Most Outstanding Rookie and the Coaches’ Award after placing first in the 200, second in the 100 and helping her team to two first place finishes in the 4x100 and the 4x400.
UMass Lowell’s coaching staff led by Gary Gardner earned another Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the men’s side, while Binghamton's coaching staff received Coaching Staff of the Year honors on the women’s side.
Michael Makiej from UMass Lowell received the Elite 18 award. The junior majors in philosophy and political science holds a 3.97 GPA. On the women’s side, Grace Yost, the sophomore from Bryant with a 3.97 GPA in communications, received Elite 18 honors.
