ALBANY, N.Y. – The America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships returned to the University at Albany for the first time since 2019. The first day of the 2023 #AETF Championship was highlighted by multiple first-time champions on Saturday, and two record breaking performances.
After one day of competition it is the UMass Lowell men in the lead with 68 points, followed by the Binghamton men with 44 point in second and Maine in thrid with 35 points. With 48.50 points the Binghamton women lead after one day of competition, followed by the UAlbany women with 37.50 and in third Maine women with 31 points.

Day 1 Highlights
- James Kotowski of UMass Lowell broke a 25 year record set in 1998 in the javelin. throw with a distance of 235' 6". The record was previously set at 230' 4", Kotowski crushed the record by over 5 feet.
- Maine’s Mackenzie Wilson won in the women’s hammer throw. The first time America East Champion, won with a distance of 197' 1".
- Lois Warden of Bryant won the women’s pole vault clearing a height of 12' 1½".
- UAlbany’s Louis Gordon won gold and set a new conference record jumping a distance of 25' 4½". The record was previously set in 2021 at a distance of 24' 11¼".
- Winning the men’s hammer, Lewis Roebuck of Maine threw a distance of 191' 4"
- Julia Field of Maine took home gold in the women’s javelin throwing a distance of 146' 1".
- Binghamton’s Casey Gribben finished first in the men’s pole vault clearing a height of 15' 11".
- Efe Omokeni of UAlbany took home her first America East title finishing first in the women’s long jump with a distance of 19' 11¾".
- Aziza Chigatayeva of Binghamton became the four time women’s 3000 steeplechase champion after winning today’s event with a time of 11:00.42.
- Joseph Young Jr. from UMass Lowell finished first in the men’s 3000 steeplechase running a time of 9:04.99.
- Kenzie Doyle from UMass Lowell became the two time America East 10,000m champion after running a 36:23.90 in the event.
- UMass Lowell scored the top six of 8 in the men's 10,000m lead by 2022 America East Champion, John Riley, winning with a time of 30:55.43.
The final day begins at 9 a.m. with finishing up the heptathlon and decathlon and the men’s shot put and women’s discus starting at 10am. #AEChamps will be streamed live on AmericaEast.tv starting at 10:00 a.m.
