BOSTON, Mass. – The America East Conference has announced its finalists for the 2022-23 Man and Woman of the Year awards. The three men and three women represent five different schools and five different sports. The 2022-23 Man and Woman of the Year will be unveiled on Wednesday, June 7 at the conference’s Year End Awards Banquet.
The America East began honoring a Woman of the Year in 2006 and introduced the Man of the Year award in 2015. All-Time America East Man & Woman of the Year Award Listing.
Liam Brown – NJIT – Lacrosse
- In 2023, posted a 13.01 GAA and a .530 save percentage.
- Led the nation with 14.77 saves per game and ranked 16th in save percentage in 2023.
- Selected to America East All-Academic Team three straight years.
- A Biomedical Engineering major with a 3.85 GPA.
Graydon Hogg – UAlbany - Lacrosse
- Second-Team All-Conference for the third straight season in 2023 despite being limited to just 11 games.
- Team captain and scored 19 goals with four assists for 23 points in 2023.
- Member of 2023 Canadian men’s lacrosse national team.
- Owns a 3.45 GPA as a Psychology major.
Jake Restivo – Binghamton – Track & Field
- Claimed the America East Championship in the long jump at the 2022 Indoor Track & Field Championship and took second in the 2023 Indoor Championship.
- Finished third in the long jump at both the 2022 and 2023 America East Outdoor Championships.
- Three-year team captain.
- Has a 3.64 GPA as an Integrative Neuroscience major.
Courtney Coppersmith – UMBC – Softball
- Four-time America East Pitcher of the Year and four-time NFCA All-Region Selection.
- Led UMBC to four consecutive America East Softball Championships.
- Concluded career with an America East record 1,023 strikeouts and ranks eight in NCAA history with 11.36 strikeouts per seven innings.
- Graduated with a 3.71 GPA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Helene Haegerstrand – UAlbany – Women’s Basketball
- Two-time first-team all-conference section.
- Led UAlbany to the 2021-22 America East Championship.
- Scored 1,269 points with 421 rebounds and 137 three-point field goals while shooting 37.4 percent from beyond the arc.
- Owns a 3.65 GPA as a Business Administration major.
Sini Karjalainen – Vermont – Women’s Ice Hockey
- Member of Finnish national team as a defensemen and helped Finland take fifth at the 2023 World Championships.
- Named Hockey East Defender of the Year and was First-Team All-Hockey East.
- Tied for first on the team in assists (24) and fourth in scoring (27 pts) as a defensemen.
- Has a 3.84 GPA as a Dietetics, Nutrition and Food Sciences major.
The three finalists for Man and Woman of the were selected from a pool of nine men's and women's nominees. The nine men's and women's nominees were announced on Monday, May 22.
