No. 1 Maine and No. 3 Binghamton Advance to the #AEBASE Championship

Binghamton, N.Y. - The three remaining teams returned to the diamond for day 3 of the #AEBASE Championship this Friday. 
 
No. 1 Maine and No. 2 UMBC were first in the 1 p.m. showdown. It was the Black Bears who pulled away to head to the #AEBASE Championship for the first time since 2017. Returning to the championship game is the Binghamton Bearcats who upset No. 2 seed UMBC in the second game of the day. The Bearcats opened the gates in the 5th inning scoring 5 RBI and 1 home run to beat the Retrievers 7-1 and advance to the championship. 
 
First pitch of the #AEBASE Championship game is at 1 p.m. No. 1 Maine faces off against No. 3 Binghamton in tomorrow’s championship matchup. 
 
2023 #AEBASE Championship Day 3 Recap
#1 Maine 3, #2 UMBC 1
  • It was the Retrievers that struck first. Anthony Swenda hit a solo homer to put UMBC up in the top of the 3rd inning 
  • The Black Bears were quick to respond in the bottom of the 3rd with Quinn McDaniel hitting an RBI to tie things up at 1-1 
  • It was all defense for the next three innings as the two teams held the score 1-1 until the bottom of the 6th.
  • Jeremiah Jenkins pulled the Black Bears out of a dry spell with a home run and also bringing in an runner making it 3-1
 
#3 Binghamton 7, #2 UMBC 1
  • The Bearcats were quick to open the scoring with an RBI by Kevin Gsell bringing in one runner in the first inning
  • The Retrievers wasted no time in answering with an RBI of their own in the bottom of the first with solo home run from Christian Easley, tying the game up at 1
  • Gsell again brings in another runner putting the Bearcats up 2-1 in the top of the 5th
  • From then on, it was all Bearcats as Zach Taylor homered making it 3-1 in the 6th
  • Another home run from Cavan Tully widened the gap for Bingahmton to 4-1 in the 7th
  • Also in the 7th Mike Gunning added an RBI to put the Bearcats at 5-1 
  • The 8th inning brought two more RBI from Binghamton by Tommy Reifler and Nick Roselli to end with a final score of 7-1 

The championship game will air on ESPN+ domestically and AmericaEast.TV outside of the United States.
