After winning its first-ever America East men’s lacrosse title last weekend, Bryant will take on Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA tournament at historic Homewood Field in Baltimore on Sunday at 12 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
The Bulldogs (12-4) earned their first NCAA Tournament berth as an #AEMLAX member with a thrilling win over UAlbany in the league title game on May 7. Aidan Goltz’s overtime score gave Bryant a 12-11 win and a 7-0 record all-time in league title game. The Blue Jays are the No. 6 national seed and come into the game 11-5 overall and winners of seven of their last nine games.
Kevin Groeninger, the America East Championship Most Outstanding Player, Goltz and America East Rookie of the Year Johnny Hackett lead a high powered offense that ranks ninth nationally averaging nearly 15 goals per game. The trio has combined for 177 points this season.
Sunday will mark Bryant's sixth appearance in the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships. The Bulldogs are 3-5 all-time in the championship, which included a run to the quarterfinals in 2014.
#AEMLAX teams have combined to win 16 games all time, including UAlbany advancing to Championship Weekend in 2018.
The winner of Sunday's game will face the winner of Saturday's first round game between Utah and No. 3 Notre Dame in the NCAA Quarterfinals on May 21 in Annapolis, Md.
