Outdoor #AETF Awards Open Up With Binghamton, Maine & UMBC

BOSTON - Outdoor track and field returns just two short weeks after the close of the indoor season with the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. All 9 #AETF teams competed over the past two weekends leading to the first weekly awards of the outdoor season.  
 
After this weekend's performances there are 10 teams in the top 25 of their respective regions. Leading the pack is UAlbany, both men and women are currently 9th in the Northeast Region. Followed by the UMBC men’s team who is 16th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and then the Binghamton women, who are 17th and the UMass Lowell men who are 18th both in the Northeast Region.  UMass Lowell women follow with being ranked 21st in the Northeast, followed by both Maine men and women teams who are both currently 22nd. Rounding out the top 25 in their region, both UMBC women and Bryant men have secured the 25th spot in the Northeast after the first week of the outdoor season.

Male Track Performer
Alec Troxell, Maine - Sr., Distance, Portland, ME
  • Placed 41st in the 5k against a field of over 200 runners with a time of 14:08.32  
  • Troxell is currently 1st in the conference with this time and set a Maine school record in the event 
Male Field Performer 
Gabriel Koletsi, UMBC - Fr., Throws, Heraklion, Greece
  • Koletsi took gold in the javelin throw with a distance of 69.15m 
  • His throw ranks him 1st in the conference, 2nd in the Mid-Atlantic Region and 15th nationally 
Female Track Performer 
Aziza Chigatayeva, Binghamton - Gr., Distance, Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • In the 3000 steeplechase, Chigatayeva finished 3rd out of 34 with a personal best of 9:58.02 
  • Her time puts her at the top of the America East leaderboard as well as the top of the Northeast Region and is now ranked 3rd nationally 
Female Field Performer
Mackenzie Wilson, Maine - Sr., Throws, Lasalle, Ontario 
  • Wilson placed 5th in the hammer throw with a distance of 59.78m 
  • She is now ranked 1st in the conference, 2nd in the Northeast and 25th in the nation
