Vermont Secures No. 15 Seed in NCAA Tournament and UAlbany is Headed to WNIT

BOSTON – Vermont earned at No. 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will face off against No. 2 seed UConn in Storrs on Saturday at 3 p.m., while UAlbany secured a bid to the WNIT where the Great Danes travel to face UMass on Friday at 7 p.m.
 
UVM secured the America East’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with its 38-36 victory over UAlbany in the conference championship game on Friday evening. The win extended the Catamounts’ win streak to 17 games and improved their record to 25-6 overall. It is the first NCAA appearance for the Catamounts since 2010 and seventh in program history.
 
UConn is a No. 2 seed after going 29-5 this year, highlighted by clinching the Big East championship over Villanova last week. The Huskies are making their 34th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Vermont will face off against UConn at 3 p.m. on ABC in Gampel Pavilion on Saturday, March 18. The winner of Saturday’s matchup will face the winner of No. 7 Baylor and No. 10 Alabama.
 
UAlbany was selected to the WNIT after earning a share of the 2023 America East Regular Season Title and advancing to the Championship Game for a second straight year. The Great Danes are 22-11 this year and face off against UMass, who is 26-6 overall and earned the A-10 Regular Season Championship with a 14-2 mark. The two teams will square off in the opening round on Friday, March 17 at 7 p.m. in Amherst.
 
The America East’s last NCAA Tournament victory occurred in 2016, as No. 12 UAlbany took down No. 5 Florida 61-59. The Great Danes fell to No. 4 Syracuse 76-59 in the second round. In Vermont’s last trip to the NCAA Tournament, the Catamounts won an opening round game as a No. 10 seed against No. 7 Wisconsin.
