BOSTON – The 2022 men’s lacrosse season is underway! A pair America East men’s lacrosse program took the field ahead most #AEMLAX teams playing this weekend.
In its first game as an America East associate member, Merrimack downed Hofstra, 10-7 while Vermont hung with national powerhouse Syracuse before falling 7-5.
Eight more non-conference games take place this week with each program taking the field. UAlbany and UMBC kick off their campaigns Saturday.
The preseason poll was announced on January 25.
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEMLAX this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

Offensive Player of the Week
Tommy Rooney, Merrimack – Gr., Attack, Syosset, N.Y.
- Scored three goals and added an assist in Merrimack’s season-opening win over Hofstra.
- This is Rooney’s first career #AEMLAX Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week
Matt Shaffer, Vermont – Gr., Goalkeeper, Natick, Mass.
- Stopped 16 of the 23 shots he faced at Syracuse.
- Recorded a .696 save percentage.
- Added two ground balls.
- This is Shaffer’s first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Kasey Mongillo, Merrimack – Fr., Midfielder, North Haven, Conn.
- Scored twice in
- Has seven points on four goals and three assists in two games.
- This is Adams’ first career Rookie of the Week award.
