Men's #AEHoops Weekend Preview: Feb. 18

BOSTON - There are four game dates remaining in the Men’s #AEHoops regular season and seeding for the America East Jersey Mike’s Playoffs is still up in the air, with just two losses separating seeds 2-6. Every team has something at stake this weekend as they seek to better their standing.

Binghamton (8-4) at UMass Lowell (8-5) at 1 PM
  • UMass Lowell is a perfect 13-0 at home, currently third in the #AEHoops standings. Binghamton, meanwhile, is riding a three-game win streak and currently sits in second place.
  • In the first matchup between the two teams the Bearcats escaped with a 66-65 win as Jacob Falko made a free throw with 1.6 seconds left to provide the final margin.
  • A Binghamton win would give the team a two-game cushion in the standings with just three games left, along with a sweep of the River Hawks.
  • UMass Lowell would jump to second place in the #AEHoops standings with a win and will have just two games remaining, against UMBC and UNH.

UMBC (7-6) at New Hampshire (6-6) – 1 PM
  • Saturday’s matchup features a pair of teams who have struggled in recent weeks and both are coming off losses. UMBC fell 81-74 to UAlbany and UNH lost 80-51 at Vermont.
  • UMBC is just 2-2 over its last four games, giving up 80+ points in both losses.
  • UNH has dropped three straight following a three-game win streak. During the losing current streak the Wildcats are averaging just 53.6 points per game.
  • UMBC claimed the first matchup between the two teams and a win would provide a crucial sweep. The Retrievers also swept Bryant, who currently has a matching 7-6 record and is on a bye.

UAlbany (2-11) vs. Maine (4-8) – 2 PM
  • UAlbany snapped a nine-game losing streak and kept its playoff hopes alive with an 81-74 victory over UMBC on Wednesday.
  • Maine has dropped two straight and three of four, losing 65-50 to NJIT on Wednesday. In their last three losses they are averaging just 56 points per game.
  • A Maine victory would eliminate UAlbany from playoff contention and give the Black Bears their first playoff appearance since 2020.
  • When the two teams met earlier this year Maine came away with a 72-68 victory by outscoring the Great Danes 43-34 in the second half.

Vermont (10-2) vs. NJIT (4-8) – 7 PM
  • UVM has won eight straight games to take over first place by two games with four contests remaining.
  • NJIT is coming off an 86-67 loss to Binghamton and has dropped four of five overall. During that span they haven't scored more than 67 points in a single game.
  • A UVM win would assure the Catamounts of a top three seed in the playoffs. If combined with a Binghamton loss earlier in the day, UVM could claim at least a share of the regular season championship.
  • An NJIT win, combined with a UAlbany loss, would guarantee NJIT an appearance in the 2023 playoffs.
  • The Catamounts earned an 85-69 victory the first time these teams played, jumping out to a 40-30 lead at the half and getting a career-high 28 points from Finn Sullivan.

America East Tiebreaking Procedures
Ties for championship seeding will be broken from the top of the standings down. In the event of a tie between two or more teams, the tie shall be broken using the following criteria in order:
  1. Winning percentage in conference games versus the other teams with which it is tied (i.e., head-to-head competition).
  2. Winning percentage in conference games versus the other conference opponents in descending rank order. In the event of arriving at another group of tied teams (i.e., teams with identical records yet to be broken by tie break) when comparing records, each team’s record (winning percentage) versus the tied teams is used rather than the performance versus the individual tied teams.
  3. Winning percentage in conference road games. In the event a conference game was played on a neutral court, the team awarded the home game by the conference office when the schedule was issued is considered the home team.
  4. Better NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) ranking through end of conference regular-season games.
  5. Draw conducted by the Commissioner or his/her/their designee.

Note: Once a tie is broken among three or more teams, immediately return to (1) to break the tie between the remaining teams.
