Women’s #AEHoops Week 5: UAlbany Wins Twice

BOSTON – UAlbany stretched its win streak to three with a 2-0 week, while Maine and Bryant both went 1-0 during last week’s action.
  
The Week That Was
  • The Great Danes sit atop the league standings with a 7-2 mark after shutting down CCSU on the road 56-37 and beating Marist 49-39 at home. They also rank second in the conference in NET at 145.
  • Maine continued its strong start to the year with a complete 79-61 victory over Harvard in its only competition as four players scored in double figures. The Black Bears are up to 129 in NET rating.
  • Bryant is more than halfway to its win total from last season following an impressive 63-54 win on the road at Loyola (Md.)
  • New Hampshire and Vermont both went 1-1 last week, each winning once on the road.

Looking Ahead
  • There are just eight games on the schedule this week, with #AEHoops team at home.
  • UAlbany and NJIT both play twice this week. The Great Danes host Dartmouth and Stonehill while the Highlanders welcome Saint Peter’s and Saint Francis.
  • Maine hosts 7-3 JMU, who is 112 in the latest NET Rating.
  • Binghamton and Vermont are also home this week.

Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops game this season regardless of where they live!. The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

The women’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 19.
 
2023-24 Weekly Award Winners (Dec. 10)
Player of the Week
Kayla Cooper, UAlbany – Sr., Guard, Frederick, Md.                                 
  • Filled up the stat sheet with 18.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.0 blocks and 2.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week.
  • Posted 14 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three blocks in a 19-point win over CCSU.
  • Finished the week with 23 points, 13 rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks in a 49-39 win over Marist.
  • This is Cooper’s fourth career Women’s #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Mia Mancini, Bryant – Fr., Guard, Mansfield, Mass
  • Led Bryant to a 1-0 record with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists in a road victory over Loyola.
  • Went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, her seventh time this year with 3+ three-point field goals. Has 36 threes, which ranks fifth in the nation and first among freshmen.
  • This is Mancini’s fourth #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
