BOSTON – Fresh off the program’s first #AEFH Championship, California will face off against Miami (OH) in an opening round matchup on Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. on the campus of Northwestern.
The Golden Bears are 12-7 overall and riding an eight-game win streak after taking down #19 UAlbany 3-2 in overtime to win the conference title. Three different players scored for Cal, who fought back from a 2-1 fourth quarter deficit to force overtime. Goalkeeper Tina Jolly finished with eight saves to earn the victory. The win secured Cal’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2006.
Miami (OH) comes into the NCAA Tournament after claiming its sixth consecutive Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday by defeating Kent State 3-1. The RedHawks are 14-7 overall this season and have won five straight contests.
Cal and Miami (OH) most recently faced off in the opening game of the 2023 season for both squads. The RedHawks earned a 2-0 victory, despite Cal holding a 9-0 edge in corners and 11-3 advantage in shots.
This season Cal has been led by the dynamic duo of graduate students Daniella Rhodes and Bente Baekers. Rhodes has 19 goals and five assists this season while Beakers has 17 goals and five assists. Tiny Jolly has been strong in net, posting a 1.77 GAA with 79 saves while playing in all 19 games.
The winners of Wednesday’s matchup advance to face host and No. 2 overall seed Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 10.
