Men's #AEHoops Week 2: Bryant Beats #10 FAU; Vermont, UML Post Strong Results

BOSTON – America East teams showed out last week, highlighted by Bryant's road win at #10 FAU. The Bulldogs held last year's Final Four participant to just 26 percent shooting in the 61-52 wins. Additionally, Vermont reached the finals of the Myrtle Beach Invitational and UMass Lowell earned a Power 5 win at Georgia Tech. Overall, America East teams went 12-8 for a strong week.

The Roundup
  • Sherif Gross-Bullock contributed 19 points and 11 boards to lead Bryant past #10 FAU on the road.
  • The win was the first for an #AEHoops team over a ranked opponent since UMBC famously beat Virginia in the NCAA tournament in 2018.
  • Vermont defeated Charleston and Saint Louis to reach the Myrtle Beach Invitational title game before dropping a close contest with CUSA favorite Liberty. The Catamounts are 4-1.
  • UMass Lowell put up 51 second-half points en route to a 74-71 win over Georgia Tech on Tuesday to earn just its second-ever win over an ACC program. Ayinde Hikim led the way with a game-high 24 points.while Brayden O'Connor poured in a career-best 18 points.
  • UMBC went 3-0 last week, capping the week with wins over NEC-favorite Sacred Heart and Loyola. The Retrievers are averaging 83 points per game through five contests.
  • Clarence Daniels had the best individual performance of the week, scoring a career-high 36 points on 10-of-15 from the floor and adding nine rebounds in UNH's win over Brown on Tuesday..
  • Binghamton has won three in a row after beating Loyola and Marist last week.
  • 17 more games take place this week, including five at home.

The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

The men’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 18.

Player of the Week
Sherif Gross-Bullock, Bryant - Sr., Guard, Washington, D.C.                              
  • Averaged a league-best 23.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
  • Had a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds in Bryant's win over #10 FAU Saturday.
  • He also had 28 points against Boston U. on Thursday.
  • This is Gross-Bullock's first men’s #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season and fourth of his career.
Rookie of the Week
Sebastian Robinson, Maine - Fr., Guard, Montclair, N.J.
  • Had a career-high 17 points and six assists vs. American.
  • This is Robinson's first career men’s #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
