Women's #AEHoops Week 1: The Season Has Arrived

BOSTON – Eight different teams earned at least one victory during the opening week, with Maine, NJIT and New Hampshire posting impressive 2-1 records to start the season.

The Week That Was
  • Maine dropped its opener to Quinnipiac but came back with double-digit victories against La Salle and UMass to conclude the week.
  • NJIT won its first two games of the year, taking down Army and Merrimack, before falling 104-57 to No. 10 Notre Dame at home to conclude the week.
  • UNH went 1-1 against Division I competition and 2-1 overall, highlighted by a 59-51 victory over Howard at home to conclude the week.
  • UVM, UAlbany and Bryant all went 1-1 to start the year. The Catamounts took down Miam (OH) while UAlbany outlasted Merrimack and the Bulldogs beat Dartmouth.
     
Looking Ahead
  • Maine hosts A-10 preseason favorite URI highlighting a strong week of action, while Vermont travels to St. Bonaventure.
  • NJIT is at home twice, against Rider and Wagner, while UMass Lowell hosts Le Moyne in search of its first victory.
  • New Hampshire faces a pair of tough tests, traveling west to battle Colorado State and UNLV this week.

Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops game this season regardless of where they live!. The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

The women’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 19.
 
2023-24 Weekly Award Winners (Nov. 13)
Player of the Week
Anne Simon, Maine – Gr., Guard, Sandweiler, Luxembourg                                 
  • Averaged 19.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals in a 2-1 week.
  • Filled up the stat sheet with 27 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals in a win over UMass.
  • Had 20 points, ten rebounds and four steals in a victory against La Salle
  • This is Simon’s fifth career Women’s #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Mia Mancini, Bryant – Fr., Guard, Mansfield, Mass.
  • Averaged 16.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week.
  • Netted 20 points with five threes in a season-opening win over Dartmouth.
  • Followed up with 12 points and two rebounds in a loss to Seton Hall.
  • This is Mancini’s first career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
