BOSTON – On the final day of the regular season the UMass Lowell River Hawks came through with an impressive 3-0 victory to secure the No. 1 over seed in the upcoming #AEFH Tournament and share regular season title honors with UAlbany, who will be the No. 2 seed.
Both the River Hawks and Great Danes finished with matching 7-1 conference records during regular season to claim a share of the regular season title. UMass Lowell earned the top seed due to its 3-2 victory over UAlbany earlier this season. This is the River Hawks’ first regular season title in program history.
The championship commences on Thursday at 12 p.m. with quarterfinal action. The final seeds for the 2023 America East Field Hockey Championship are:
1. UMass Lowell – First regular season title and No. 1 seed in program history
2. UAlbany – Reigning #AEFH Tournament Champions are the No. 2 seed for the second straight season
3. New Hampshire – Earned its best conference record since 2014
4. California – Reached the #AEFH Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons
5. Vermont – Earned their second straight #AEFH Tournament berth
6. Maine – Made 16th straight tournament appearance
New Hampshire secured its highest seed in nearly a decade with a 6-2 conference mark, while California concluded the regular season on a five-game win streak for a 5-3 mark and the No. 4 seed. Vermont finished at No. 5 with its 4-4 record while Maine was sixth.
UMass Lowell will host the quarterfinal action on Thursday as No. 4 California and No. 5 Vermont play at 12 p.m., while No. 3 New Hampshire and No. 6 Maine will square off at 3 p.m.
The top seeded River Hawks will the play 4/5 winner on Friday at 12 p.m., while UAlbany will match up against the 3/6 winner at 3 p.m.
Semifinal winners will face off for the 2023 Championship at 12 p.m. on Sunday, November 5.
