Men's Basketball 10/27/2023 11:00:00 AM 2023-24 #AEHoops Preview: UNH Men’s Basketball Nine Teams, Nine Days – Over the next nine days we’ll take a look at each of the America East’s nine men’s basketball programs in a lead up to the 2023-24 season. The regular season begins on Monday, Nov. 6 with eight teams in action and the full schedule of contests can be found here. Nathan Davis takes over a new-look New Hampshire men’s basketball program which he promises will get people to Lundholm Gym. Davis comes to Durham after spending the past eight years as the head coach at Bucknell. “I think fans can expect an exciting brand of basketball,” said Davis. “We should be a team that plays unselfishly, plays together and plays with great pace. We really going to try to put pressure on the defense to guard us until we get the shots we want.” Leading the Wildcats this year will be Clarence Daniels, someone who Davis calls a true “three-level scorer.” In his first year with the program Daniels truly did it all, starting all 30 games and leading the team in both scoring (15.3) and rebounding (10.7). The 2022-23 First-Team All-Conference selection also shot 40.8 percent from downtown and tallied 34 points in a non-conference victory over Boston College. Ridvan Tutic and Trey Woodyard are the team’s other returning starters. Tutic averaged 4.9 rebounds per game last year, while Woodyard hits 15 threes and dished off 27 assists. Davis also expects a few of his transfers to make an impact, highlighted by guard Ahmad Robinson and forward Paul Gakmar. Robinson comes from the junior college level, where he averaged 17.0 points, 5.4 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Meanwhile, the 6-8 Gakmar, averaged 7.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 36.1 percent from downtown. The Wildcats look to slay an ACC opponent for the second straight season as they begin the season at Syracuse on Nov. 6. The team follows that up with home games against Brown and Marist, before traveling to face defending national champion UConn on Nov. 27. UNH concludes non-conference action at Rhode Island and Iowa State before opening #AEHoops action at home versus UMass Lowell on Jan. 6 at 12 p.m. New Hampshire – Roster - Schedule Head Coach: Nathan Davis 2022-23 Record: 15-15, 9-7 (3rd) Postseason: America East Semifinals Scoring Offense: 66.4 points per game (9th) Scoring Defense: 67.0 points per game (3rd) Three-point FG Per Game: 8.3 (2nd) Returning Starters (3) Clarence Daniels, F -15.3 ppg, 10.7 rpg, 38 steals Ridvan Tutic, F – 3.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg Trey Woodyard, G – 2.0 ppg, 1.5. rpg Notable Newcomers (6) Ahmad Robinson, G – transfer from Western Texas College Paul Gakmar, F – transfer from Hillsborough CC Naim Miller, G – transfer from Edinboro Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops home game on The AE on ESPN with all games airing on ESPN+ or ESPN3 domestically and AmericaEast.TV internationally.
