#AEWSOC Week 10: Championship Picture Shaping Up

BOSTON – The start of the 2023 America East women's soccer championship is less than a week out and the playoff picture is shaping up. Five teams have clinched bids to the tournament with two teams fighting for the final spot.
 
UMass Lowell and NJIT both posted wins on Sunday to clinch bids while UNH tied UMBC to earn a spot. The River Hawks upended UAlbany, 2-1, while the Highlanders got two goals from Briana Andreoli to pace a 3-2 win at Vermont. The Catamounts and Bryant remain alive for the final two bids.

Binghamton, Maine and UNH all remain alive for the regular-season title. The Bearcats secured a top-two seed and a quarterfinal-round bye with a 2-2 tie vs. Maine. 

The regular-season concludes on Thursday with four games and the championship begins on Sunday. Visit Championship Central for full information.
 
2023 #AEWSOC Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 23
Offensive Player of the Week
Briana Andreolli, NJIT - So., Forward, Hawthorne, N.J.
  • Scored twice in NJIT's crucial 3-2 victory over NJIT on Sunday. 
  • The win clinched an #AEWSOC championship berth for the Highlanders, their third straight.
  • This is Andreoli's first #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Abbey Cowles, UMBC - Jr., Goalkeeper, Colts Neck, N.J.
  • Stopped all eight shots she faced in UMBC's scoreless tie vs. UNH on Sunday.
  • The shutout was the third of the season for Cowles.
  • This is Cowles’ first #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Samantha Zaslaw, Bryant - Fr., Forward, Marshfield, Mass.
  • Scored a brace in Bryant's 5-2 win over Chicago State on Thursday.
  • This is Zaslaw's first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor.
