Boston, MA - Several teams around the conference are being recognized for their outstanding play, continuing an impressive fall season for the America East Conference.
For just the second time in America East history, three men’s soccer programs are nationally ranked. The last time three teams were ranked was 2016 when UMass Lowell, UAlbany, and Vermont were all ranked in the United Soccer Coaches’ Poll. America East, which ranks third nationally in conference RPI, is one of just three conferences nationwide to have three teams ranked in the top-25 joined by the ACC and Sun Belt.
Vermont leads the pack currently ranked 16th in the United Coaches’ Poll. The Catamounts went 7-1-2 in non-conference play only losing to No. 7 Akron. Vermont currently sits first in the America East standings at 3-1 with just three games left to play.
New Hampshire comes in at the top-20 sitting at 19th in the country. The Wildcats had an impressive non-conference performance with wins over No.4 FIU, Princeton, and Hofstra.
The 2022 America East champions are currently 1-0-3 in the conference.
Bryant rounds out the group of three being ranked inside the top-25 at No. 24 in the United Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs had a standout start to their season being recognized as the only team to not concede a single goal until the ninth week of play, where they suffered their first loss to Vermont.
America East also has two field hockey teams in the top-20, with UMass Lowell at No. 18 and UAlbany at No. 20. The River Hawks current record of 11-3 includes impressive wins over UMass (currently No. 19) and UAlbany (currently No. 20) to help reach the No. 18 spot. The 2022 America East Champions, the Great Danes, are currently sitting second in the conference with a 9-5 record, beating Cornell (currently No. 17) in non-conference play.
America East will look to take success into the postseason in both men’s soccer and field hockey again this year. Last season, both UNH and Vermont advanced to the second round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship with the Catamounts getting all the way to the quarterfinals. In field hockey, UAlbany upset Michigan to reach the quarterfinals.
