Women’s #AEHoops Week 8: Four Teams Unbeaten in Conference Play

BOSTON – Following the opening weekend of conference play four teams remain undefeated, as UAlbany, UMBC and NJIT all went 2-0 while Maine claimed one victory.
 
  • The Great Danes started their title defense with a 60-46 victory over Vermont, followed by a dominant 71-46 win against New Hampshire. Helene Haegerstrand scored seven points to reach 1000 career points against UNH.
  •  Maine began conference play by taking down Maine 74-62, getting 19 points and 13 rebounds from Adrianna Smith.
  • UMBC opened conference play 2-0 for the first time in program history, edging Binghamton 73-69 and then outlasting Vermont 58-57 on Jan. 1. KK White posted 17.0 points per game to pace the Retrievers.
  • NJIT swept its opening week of games for the second straight year. The Highlanders beat UNH 54-43 and then held off UMass Lowell 60-56. Aria Myers averaged 15.5 points per game to lead NJIT.
 
A reminder that every round of the Jersey Mikes #AEPlayoffs will take place on the higher seed’s home court so earning home court advantage will prove crucial once again. The league champion will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.

Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops game this season regardless of where they live!. The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

The women’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 19.
 
2022-23 Weekly Award Winners (Jan. 3)
Player of the Week
K.K. White, UMBC – Gr., Guard, Indianapolis, Ind.
  • Averaged 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for UMBC.
  • The 2-0 #AEHoops start is the first ever for the Retrievers.
  • Shot 56 percent from the field (15-for-27).
  • Had 16 points and seven boards vs. Binghamton and 18 points and four caroms against Vermont.
  • This is White’s first-ever women’s #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Sarah Talon, Maine – Fr., Guard, Windham, Maine
  • Scored career-high 21 points in win over Bryant to start conference play.
  • Made both three-point attempts while adding five rebounds, two steals and one block.
  • This is Talon’s first Women’s #AEHoops Rookie of the Week award.
