AE Weekend Preview: Sept. 23-25

BOSTON – This weekend marks the start of conference play for field hockey and men’s soccer, while women’s soccer goes into its second week of America East action. Volleyball is off this weekend, with just one match scheduled before conference play begins next week.

Field Hockey
After week zero saw UMass Lowell and Vermont both get of to 2-0 starts in conference play. league action kicks off for five more #AEFH programs this weekend. On Friday, UAlbany and Cal meet while UNH and Maine battle for the 60th time in the Border War and Vermont aims to extend its program-record win streak to seven games when it hosts Bryant. A slate of four more games will take place on Sunday, including a rematch of last year's epic America East championship game in which Maine outlasted UAlbany in a shootout to win its first-ever league crown. Both Maine games will air on ESPN+ this weekend while the other five contests are on AE.TV.

Men’s Soccer
Conference play kicks off on Saturday with four #AEMSOC contests. #22 Vermont leads a strong group of teams into league play having gone unbeaten in its last six games (5-0-1) and will face Binghamton.
 Bryant faces off against a UNH team which hasn’t lost in conference play sine Nov. 1, 2019 in its first-ever America East game. The Wildcats have won the last four America East regular-season titles. UMBC hosts UAlbany and NJIT visits UMass Lowell in the other two matchups.

Women’s Soccer
Week two of #AEWSOC action takes place on Sunday with four contests. UMass Lowell takes on UAlbany in it first league contest after having the bye last week. The Great Danes will look to improve to 2-0 after beating UNH, 2-1, behind two scores from America East Offensive Player of the Week Olivia Piraino. Elsewhere, Vermont looks to extend it's unbeaten streak again league foes to 11 games (9-0-1). A defensive battle likely awaits in Newark with UNH visiting NJIT. Both teams are tough to score on with UNH ranking second having allowed just nine goals. NJIT relies on goalkeeper Molly Saylor to lead the defensive effort. She leads the conference in both save percentage (.851) and saves per game (5.7).

Cross Country
Four teams travel to the Coast-to-Coast Battle of Beantown on Friday to compete. Defending conference champion UMass Lowell will face off against Vermont, UNH, Maine and host of other Division I programs.
