#AEMSOC Week 4: Seven Teams Earn Points Last Week

BOSTON – Seven different #AEMSOC programs came away with at least a point in the final full week of non-conference action. Vermont continued its strong start, going 2-0 to improve to 5-1-1.
 
This week seven programs take part in a mid-week non-conference game, before America East play begins on Saturday with four matches. Three contests this week will be on ESPN+ while five can be viewed on AETV.

2022 #AEMSOC Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 19
Offensive Player of the Week

Max Murray, Vermont – Jr., Midfielder, Kennebunkport, Maine
  • Scored twice in a 2-0 week as UVM improved to 5-1-1.
  • Tallied the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win at Cornell to hand the Big Red its first loss.
  • Had the opening goal in a 2-1 victory over UC Irvine.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Luca Marinelli, Bryant – So., Goalkeeper, Milford, Conn.
  • Went 1-0 with a 10-save shutout of Stonehill.
  • Stopped 10 shots against the Skyhawks for his second shutout of the season.
  • This marks Marinelli’s second #AEMSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Lasse Kelp, UMBC – Fr., Back, Bonn, Germany
  • Started a pair of games, helping UMBC to a 1-1 record with only one goal allowed.
  • Part of a defense which only allowed one goal, 12 shots and five corner kicks over two contests.
  • Recorded three shots and one on goal in a 1-0 loss to Mount St. Mary’s.

Sept. 12 – Offensive Player of the Week: Rory O’Driscoll, New Hampshire; Defensive Player of the Week: Daniel Shannon, UAlbany; Rookie of the Week: Maximus Barboto, NJIT
Sept. 19 – Offensive Player of the Week: Max Murray, Vermont; Defensive Player of the Week: Luca Marinelli, Bryant; Rookie of the Week: Lasse Kelp, UMBC
 
America East is one of the best men’s soccer conferences in the country. Four teams have reached the third round of the NCAA tournament since 2014, including UMBC getting all the way to the College Cup in 2014. The conference has received multiple bids to the NCAA tournament in three of last seven seasons, including in 2021 when both UNH and league champion Vermont received bids.

Fans will once again be able to watch nearly every #AEMSOC contest this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.
