BOSTON – America East women’s soccer conference play got underway this weekend and two teams came away with victories. UAlbany and Binghamton are off to 1-0 #AEWSOC starts after wins over UNH and Bryant, respectively.
The Great Danes downed UNH, 2-1, behind two scores from Olivia Piraino while the Bearcats blanked the Bulldogs, 1-0. Maine, UMBC, NJIT and Vermont all earned a point as the Black Bears and Highlanders played to a scoreless draw, as did the Retrieves and Catamounts.
The top six teams in the final #AEWSOC standings will qualify for this year’s America East Women’s Soccer Championship.

Offensive Player of the Week
Olivia Piraino, UAlbany – Jr., Midfielder, Niskayuna, N.Y.
- Scored both of UAlbany’s goals in its conference opener, a 2-0 win at UNH.
- Had a hat trick and an assist in win over Stonehill on Thursday.
- This is Piraino’s first career #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kaitlyn Williams, Binghamton – So., Goalkeeper, Clinton, N.Y.
- Stopped 10 of the 11 shots she faced in an unbeaten week for Binghamton.
- Had seven saves in a 1-1 tie vs. Cornell on Thursday and stopped all three shots she saw in a 1-0 shutout win over Bryant on Sunday.
- This is Williams’ first career Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Abbi Maier, New Hampshire – Fr., Midfielder, Cincinnati, Ohio
- Scored her first career goal against UAlbany on Sunday.
- This is Maier’s first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor.
