Adam Savill Named America East Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

BOSTON – New Hampshire’s Adam Savill has been named the 2021-22 America East Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon.

Savill is the first UNH student-athlete to earn Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors from the America East. He is the sixth men’s soccer athlete to win the award. He is the second male to win Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Man of the Year honors the same year, joining Kelton Cullenberg of Maine back in 2014.

The Scholar-Athletes of the Year were voted on by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement Committee. Each year, the committee elects a Scholar-Athlete in each of the league's 18 championship sports following the fall, winter and spring seasons and from that group, chooses one male and one female as the conference's Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Savill spent the spring 2021 and fall 2021 seasons with the Wildcats and helped to anchor the best defense in the nation this past fall. He started all 19 games for UNH, led them to the NCAA Round of 16 and was a part of a school-record 17 wins. The Wildcats were ranked as high as No. 4 during the year and finished the season ranked 9th nationally. Savill was honored as the America East Defensive Player of the Year after helping the UNH defense lead the nation with an impressive 0.46 GAA. The team also was second nationally in goal differential, finishing +37. Individually, Savill recorded three assists, including one in the team’s NCAA victory over North Carolina. In the spring of 2021 he helped lead the Wildcats to their third consecutive America East Championship and an 8-1-1 record overall.

Academically, Savill earned his undergraduate degree from Hofstra and his MBA from UNH this past May with a 3.76 GPA. He was selected as a First-Team Scholar All-American, named to the America East All-Academic Team, and honored as the conference Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Savill was also active in the community, assisting in highway cleanup and also working with the Oyster River Youth Association to set up soccer equipment. This past season he also served as a team co-captain with the Wildcats.
