Schaffer Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – Binghamton’s Dan Schaffer has been named a second-team Track & Cross Country Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA), as announced on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, Schaffer concluded his career by competing in the men's 5,000 at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Championships. He was named an honorable mention All-American in that event by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Schaffer's stellar year began when he won the America East individual cross country title. He concluded that cross country campaign by earning All-Northeast Region honors for the second time in his career. During the indoor track season, Schaffer won two more America East titles and broke the four-minute mile three times. After capturing another two crowns at the conference outdoor meet, he punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships by placing sixth overall in the 5,000 at the East Region Meet.

In the classroom, Schaffer repeated as a COSIDA Academic All-District honoree. He was also named the America East Men's Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In addition, Schaffer was named to the America East All-Academic Team during all three seasons (cross country, indoor track and outdoor track) and earned USTFCCCA Scholar-Athlete honors in both cross country and track & field.

Two years ago, Schaffer earned America East Presidential Scholar Athlete honors for completing his undergraduate degree with at least a 3.75 GPA. He has since earned two post-graduate degrees from Binghamton.
