BOSTON – After claiming its first-ever outright America East men’s lacrosse regular-season title, the University of Vermont claimed two of the league’s top honors as #AEMLAX major award winners were announced on Wednesday afternoon along with All-Conference, All-Rookie and All-Academic honorees.
Vermont's Thomas McConvey earned Offensive Player of the Year honors while teammate Ryan Cornell was the Defensive Player of the Year. UMBC's Jordan Galloway claimed Rookie of the Year recognition and Binghamton's Kevin McKeown earned Coach of the Year honors.
The majority of award winners were determined in a vote by the league's head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players. The All-Academic selections were chosen by a committee of athletic administrators.
2022 #AEMLAX Major Award Winners
Offensive Player
Thomas McConvey, Sr., Vermont
- League leader in goals (43) and second in points (54).
- First Catamount to earn the honor since 2016,
- Three-time #AEMLAX Offensive Player of the Week this season.
- He was also selected to the All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team.
Defensive Player of the Year
Ryan Cornell, Gr., Vermont
- First-ever Catamount to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors.
- League leader in goals against average (8.49) and save percentage (.559).
- Was a three-time #AEMLAX Defensive Player of the Week selection this year.
- Also a first-team All-Conference selection for the first time as well as an All-Academic choice.
Rookie of the Year
Jordan Galloway, Fr., Attack, UMBC
- Fourth on UMBC in goals (13) and points (15) playing in all 11 games.
- Also a unanimous All-Rookie choice.
Coach of the Year
Kevin McKeown, Binghamton
- Led a Binghamton squad to the America East Championship for the first time since 2017.
- After being picked fifth in the preseason coaches’ poll, the Bearcats earned the tournament’s No. 2 seed, its best since 2015.
- This is McKeown’s second Coach of the Year honor (2014). He is the eighth coach in league history to win the honor multiple times.
In addition to the major awards, the All-Conference teams were also named. Vermont set a conference record with nine first-team selections and 10 overall. Stony Brook had five, UAlbany and Binghamton four each and UMBC three.
Galloway highlighted the All-Rookie team, which consisted of 10 players whose first year of collegiate lacrosse.
The All-Academic squad features 11 impressive student-athletes, five of which were also All-Conference honorees. Collectively, the groups averages a 3.79 GPA.

Many of the award winners will be in action at the 2022 #AEMLAX Championship starting tomorrow. No. 2 Binghamton and No. 3 UMBC will square off in the first semifinal on Thursday at 4 p.m. while No. 1 Vermont and No. 4 UAlbany will meet at 7 p.m. in the second semifinal. The winners will play for the #AEMLAX title on Saturday, May 7 at 12 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
