BOSTON – Four America East student-athletes earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for their success on the track and in the classroom, as announced by CoSIDA last week.
Dan Schaffer and Emily Mackay of Binghamton were both recognized by CoSIDA while Shannon Bailey and Sydney Coddington of UAlbany were the other two honorees.
Schaffer won the America East individual cross country title in the fall and then this spring won his third straight men’s 1,500 meter title. This past weekend he earned his first trip to the NCAA Championships with a sixth place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:39.37. Academically, Schaffer had a 3.77 undergraduate GPA as a mechanical engineering major and currently owns a 3.91 GPA as an MBA student.
MacKay claimed the American East individual cross country title last fall and was a two-time All-American during indoor, earning recognition in the mile and 3,000 meters. This spring MacKay broke the America East record in the 800 meters and qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1,500 meters as she finished with a time of 4:11.65. Academically, she posted a 3.56 GPA as an undergraduate Psychology major and owns a 3.92 GPA as an MBA student.
Bailey, a junior high jumper, earned a 3.67 GPA studying Human Biology. Bailey won the high jump at the 2022 America East Outdoor Championships, and held the best performance in her signature event in the conference this season.
Coddington, a graduate distance runner earned her undergraduate degree with a 4.00 GPA in Political Science and holds a 4.00 graduate GPA studying Philosophy. Coddington is a two-time America East Elite-18 award-winner. She was a 2020-21 America East Presidential Scholar Athlete upon earning her undergraduate degree, and was the 2021 Rockefeller College Valedictorian. On the track, Coddington placed seventh in the 1,500m at the 2022 America East Outdoor Championships.
The 2021-22 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
