BOSTON – Five America East student-athletes earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for their success in the classroom and on the field, as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday afternoon.
UAlbany’s Brad Malm and NJIT's David Marcano were selected as All-District in baseball, while Courtney Coppersmith and Sierra Pierce of UMBC and Katie Falotico from UAlbany secured All-District honors in softball.
Coppersmith has a 3.73 GPA as a biochemistry and molecular biology major, and this week was named America East Pitcher of the Year. She leads the conference and ranks second nationally with a 0.29 ERA, to go along with a 9-3 record and six saves. She has totaled 192 strikeouts in 98.0 innings with just 23 walks. Pierce holds a 3.63 GPA as a graphic design and Media & Communications Studies double major. She is fourth in the conference with a .355 average, to go with 44 hits and 16 runs.
Falotico earned a 3.92 GPA as a business administration major and currently has a 4.00 GPA while completing a graduate degree in communications. On the field, she is third in the America East with a .369 average and earned First-Team All-Conference honors this week. She also leads the conference in doubles (17) and extra base hits (25).
Malm owns a 3.59 undergraduate GPA and a 3.33 graduate GPA as a Business Administration major. On the field, Malm currently ranks 10th in the America East with a .324 average, while leading the entire league in slugging (.648), runs (49) and home runs (14).
Marcano holds a 3.75 GPA in mechanical engineering and is fourth in the conference in hits.
