Four #AEBASE Alums Begin 2022 Season with MLB Clubs

Jeremy Peña, Sean Newcomb, Travis Jankowski and Adam Ottavino will all be on 40-man rosters for Opening Day.

Peña got called up to the Big Leagues this month to be Carlos Correa's successor with the Houston Astros. The former Maine shortstop is expected to make his MLB debut as a starter for the American League champs Friday in Anaheim. Peña was selected in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft, a year in which eight America East players heard their names called.

2014 America East Pitcher of the Year Sean Newcomb is back for a sixth season with the World Series-champion Atlanta Braves. Ottavino – an 11-year veteran and 2005 #AEBASE Pitcher of the Year – will be in the bullpen for the New York Mets as a teammate of Jankowski’s. The 2012 Player of the Year will begin his eighth MLB season a quick ride down I-495 from his alma matter.

55 America East players have been selected in the MLB draft over the past 11 years – most recently 2021 Pitcher of the Year Nick Sinacola. Many continue to climb through the farm systems of major league clubs.
