BOSTON – UMass Lowell’s Derek Holmes captured the track spotlight last weekend with an inspired final push in the mile resulting in an impressive time.
Some of Holmes’ teammates, along with a quartet of America East teams, competed in the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by the University of New Hampshire last weekend.

#AETF Weekly Award Winners – April 13
Female Track Performer of the Week
Caitlyn Bobb, UMBC – Fr., Sprints, Joppa, Md.
- Continued her stellar freshman campaign winning the 400m in record time.
- Her program-best 53.58 is the fastest in #AETF by nearly three seconds and ranks top-40 nationally.
- This is Bobb’s second weekly award of 2021-22.
Male Track Performer of the Week
Derek Holmes, UMass Lowell – Gr., Distance, Marshfield, Mass.
- Became just the second runner in the country to run a sub four-minute mile this season.
- Holmes ran a 3:59.57 at the Friar Invite.
- This is his second Track Performer of the Week honor of 2021-22.
Female Field Performer of the Week
Martina Nkwantah, UMass Lowell – So., Throws, Pepperell, Mass.
- Won the shot put at the Wildcat Invite.
- Her 43’2.5” heave ranks third in America East this season.
- This is her first career #AETF honor.
Male Field Performer of the Week
Patrick Pang, UMass Lowell – Gr., Throws, Peabody, Mass.
- Won the hammer throw at UNH, reaching 190’7”.
- Pang’s throw is a new career best.
- This is his first career Performer of the Week award.
