#AEPlayoffs Preview - Men's Semifinals

Two tickets to the 2022 America East Men's Basketball Championship Game will be punched on Wednesday. 

Top-seeded Vermont hosts No. 6 Binghamton in one semifinal while No. 2 UMBC welcomes No. 3 Hartford in the other. Both games start at 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+. Visit AEPlayoffs Central for all game information. 

Here is a look inside Wednesday's matchups:
 
#6 Binghamton (12-16, 8-10 AE)  at #1 Vermont (26-5, 17-1 AE)
  • This is the fifth postseason matchup between the two teams with Vermont having won all four previous meetings, including the 2019 semifinals. 
  • Vermont beat NJIT, 98-59, in the quarterfinals to reach the semis for the 20th time in the last 21 years. 
  • Binghamton held off UNH, 72-69, in a game that featured 12 lead changes to reach the semis for the second time in four seasons. 
  • UVM has won 20 of its last 21 games. 
  • Binghamton has its most wins since the 2009-10 campaign.
  • UVM has dominated the series having won 15 straight vs. the Bearcats. 
  • The game features three first-team All-Conference standouts in Vermont's Ryan Davis and Ben Shung and Binghamton's Jacob Falko.
#4 Hartford (12-19, 9-9 AE) )  at #1 Vermont (17-13, 11-7 AE) 
  • This is the fifth postseason matchup between the two teams with UMBC having won all four previous meetings, including the 2018 and 2019 semifinals. 
  • UMBC held over a furious charge from UMass Lowell to win in overtime, 93-85, and advance to its fifth-straight semifinal. 
  • Hartford's defense held UAlbany to a season-low 49 points en route to its fifth-consecutive semifinal bid.
  • The Retrievers have won 11 of their last 14 overall. 
  • The Hawks have won seven-straight playoff games, the longest stretch since UAlbany was nine in a row from 2013-15.
  • UMBC swept the season series and has won six of the last seven get togethers. 
  • First-team All-Conference standings Keondre Kennedy (UMBC) and Austin Williams (Hartford) will lead their teams in pursuit of a finals bid. 
The two semifinal winners will play for the America East title and an automatic NCAA bid on Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m. at the highest remaining seed’s home court. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN2.

All 2022 #AEPlayoffs action can be watched on ESPN networks. The quarter and semifinals will air on ESPN+ as part of The AE on ESPN with a simulcast for international viewers on AmericaEast.TV.
