BOSTON – A pair of America East student-athletes will run in the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend.
2x All-American Emily Mackay is seeded first in the mile, bringing the nation’s fastest time this season to her first indoor national championships. The Binghamton senior will run the prelims on Friday at 8 p.m. EST and will compete in a second event on Saturday when she runs the 3,000-meter run as the eighth-seeded time. The mile finals are scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST Saturday followed by the 3K at 9:00 p.m.
UMass Lowell senior Izzy Giesing is seeded 12th in the women’s 800-meter run. The semifinals are Friday at 8:45 p.m. EST and the finals are scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The 2020 800m America East champion finished second in the 800m at this year’s #AETF Championships behind Mackay’s record time.
The impressive stretch of women showcasing their running talents on the national stage continues. Mackay is competing in an NCAA championship for the third consecutive season after being joined last spring by Kaley Richards, who also ran in indoors last winter. The mile, specifically, has been a marquee event and Mackay will attempt to become the fourth woman from an America East institution to win a national championship in the event. 11-time All-American and Olympian Elle Purrier St. Pierre was the most recent winner in 2018, following Lucy Van Dalen (Stony Brook) and Jennifer Lanctot (Boston University).
Purrier St. Pierre won her national championship in 4:31.76. Mackay ran a 4:30.94 earlier this season – the top time in the NCAA.
ESPN3 will stream the 2022 indoor championships live starting at 11 a.m. Eastern time Friday, March 11 and starting at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time Saturday, March 12.
