Stony Brook, NJIT Earn Second #AEBASE Series Wins

BOSTON – NJIT and UMBC swept their way through the weekend with crooked numbers.
 
Following three wins over UAlbany, the Highlanders improved to 5-1 in league play, tied with Stony Brook for the best conference record through two weeks. The Retrievers scored 41 runs against Hartford while the Seawolves took two of three from Maine. UMass Lowell won a pair at home, taking two of three from Binghamton.
 
 
The preseason poll was announced on Feb. 4.
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEBASE this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEBASE Weekly Award Winners – Mar. 29
Player of the Week
Shane Paradine, Stony Brook – Jr., C, Bayonne, N.J.
  • Slashed .500/.550/.813 in four games, including series win over Maine.
  • The junior drove in five runs and crossed the plate four times in the series.
  • This is Paradine’s first career Player of the Week award.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Thomas Babalis, Binghamton – Jr., LHP, Branchburg, N.J.
  • Threw seven shutout innings in Friday’s win over UMass Lowell.
  • Babalis surrendered just one hit and a pair of walks while striking out seven.
  • He has been honored for the fourth time in his career and second this season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jacob Humphrey, UMass Lowell – Fr., OF, Stanidsh, Maine
  • Slashed .545/.625/.727 in 3-1 week.
  • Humphrey went 4-for-6 at the dish with three runs in the final two games against Binghamton to clinch the series.
  • This is his first career #AEBASE weekly honor.
