BOSTON – Maine and Stony Brook opened their conference slates with three-game sweeps last weekend.
The two offenses accounted for 60 combined runs and will go head-to-head this weekend in Orono. UAlbany and NJIT each won their first two games on opening weekend and will pit their 2-1 records against each other on Friday. Also scheduled for this weekend Binghamton will travel to UMass Lowell and UMBC visits Hartford.
The preseason poll was announced on Feb. 4.
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEBASE this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Player of the Week
Evan Giordano, Stony Brook – Sr., 3B, Sewell, N.J.
- Slashed .625/.700/1.125 in 4-0 week, including three-game sweep of UMass Lowell.
- Had two home runs in the series, tying the game in the 10th on Saturday and in the ninth on Sunday before drawing a walk-off 10th inning walk in the finale.
- This is Giordano’s first career Player of the Week award.
Pitcher of the Week
Grant Vurpillat, NJIT – Sr., LHP, Ladera Ranch, Calif.
- Threw eight shutout innings in Saturday’s win over Hartford.
- Vurpillat struck out eight, surrendering just three hits and a pair of walks.
- This is his second time being recognized as Pitcher of the Week.
Rookie of the Week
Jeremiah Jenkins, Maine – Fr., INF, Upper Marlboro, Md.
- Helped Maine sweep Binghamton with three RBI and three runs.
- Slashed .308/.333/.462 in three games overall.
- This is his first career #AEBASE weekly honor.
