#AEPlayoffs Quarterfinals Matchups Set for Saturday

BOSTON – The 2022 America East Women’s Basketball Playoffs begin in three days! Five of the eight playoff teams were awaiting their quarterfinals matchups on Wednesday which were decided following the regular-season finale.
 
For the fourth-straight year, the excitement of postseason basketball will take place on a minimum of four America East campuses with the higher seeds hosting each round. Regular-season champion Maine earned the top seed for the second consecutive year and will host . #2 UAlbany, #3 Vermont and #4 NJIT have also earned the right to host quarterfinal games. The postseason begins Saturday, March 5.

 
#1 Maine Black Bears (18-10, 15-13)
Secured fourth outright regular-season title in five years and league-record 18th overall; 12-game winning streak seventh longest active streak in Division I
 
#2 UAlbany Great Danes (20-9, 13-5)
Amassed 20 wins for the first time in four seasons; 14-1 at home this season
 
#3 Vermont Catamounts(19-10, 13-5)
Most conference wins since 2009-10 when the team finished 13-3; 12-3 at Patrick Gym this season
 
#4 NJIT Highlanders (14-14, 9-8)
Hosting first America East Playoffs game in school history; 14 wins is the second-highest in the program’s Division I lifetime
 
#5 UMass Lowell River Hawks (11-15, 8-9)
Seeking third consecutive semifinals appearance
 
#6 Binghamton Bearcats (8-19, 5-13)
Have won four of last five; second-best three-point defense in the country
 
#7 New Hampshire Wildcats (7-20, 4-12)
Three of four wins have come in the last two weeks.
 
#8 Hartford Hawks (4-25, 4-14)
Back in postseason for first time since going to championship game in 2018-19; three of four wins came on the road.

The two semifinal winners will play for the America East title and an automatic NCAA bid on Friday, March 11 at 5 p.m. at the highest remaining seed’s home court.

All 2022 #AEPlayoffs action can be watched on ESPN networks. The quarter and semifinals will air on ESPN+ as part of The AE on ESPN with a simulcast for international viewers on AmericaEast.TV. The championship game will be nationally televised on ESPNU. All three rounds will also be available via the ESPN app.
