LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UAlbany will make its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in ten years on Friday when the Great Danes face Louisville in the first round.
The 2022 America East women’s basketball champions saw their name appear in the Wichita Region during Sunday’s NCAA Selection Show on ESPN. The Great Danes received a 16 seed and will travel to the KFC Yum! Center for a Friday tilt against one of the top seeds. The game will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. Time is TBD.
The Great Danes’ championship season is their best under Head Coach Colleen Mullen. The No. 2 seed in the #AEPlayoffs capped their winningest season since 2017-18 by bringing home a trophy. The Great Danes had not won 13 conference games since the 2015-16 title-winning team finished the season 15-1.
The purple and gold last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2017 as a 16 seed against No. 1 UConn. The year prior was the most memorable in program history as the Great Danes knocked off Florida in the first round as a 12 seed. It was the fifth NCAA win for an America East women’s basketball program.
Friday’s game will be the first-ever meeting between the Great Danes and Cardinals.
