Maine, UAlbany Take Five-Game Win Streaks into Wednesday Matchup

BOSTON – The top-three teams in the standings all have winning streaks of five games or more after adding multiple wins last week. Two of those teams – UAlbany and Maine – are scheduled to go head-to-head on Wednesday night.

  • UAlbany (9-2) has won five in a row and 13 of 15 after three wins last week.
  • The Great Danes have allowed the fewest points per game to opponents in Division I.
  • Maine (8-3) has won five straight, including three road games last week.
  • Sophomore guard Alba Orois hit a late three-pointer in the fourth quarter that gave the Black Bears the lead for good on Sunday as they defeated Binghamton 48-46.
  • The Black Bears will host the Great Danes Wednesday night in Memorial Gym.
  • Stony Brook (10-1) has won ten consecutive games by an average of 17.8 points.
  • Only five Division I programs have a longer active win streak.
  • Vermont (7-4) topped UMass Lowell Saturday with five-straight free throws to pull off a 56-55 win.
  • UAlbany and Stony Brook are two of eight teams in the country with home records of 11-0 or better.
  • Stony Brook became the first #AEHoops program to beat two Power-5 teams in the same season since Maine beat LSU and Clemson in 2015-16.
  • The Seawolves have the best non-conference record (9-1) since the 2019-20 Seawolves started 12-1.
  • The Seawolves ranked ninth in last week’s College Insider Mid Major Top 25.
  • Josie Larkins, India Pagan, Leighah-Amori Wool, Ellyn Stoll and Janee’a Summers are the league’s active 1,000-point scorers.

2021-22 Weekly Award Winners (Feb. 7)
Player of the Week
Maeve Carroll, Maine – Gr., Forward, Oakton, Va.
  • Averaged a double-double to lead Maine to a 3-0 road trip.
  • Carroll averaged 12.7 points and 10.3 rebounds to go along with 4.3 assists.
  • On Sunday, scored 12 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and dished out seven assists at Binghamton.
  • This is her second career Player of the Week honor and first this season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Paula Gallego, Maine – Fr., Guard, Barcelona, Spain
  • Averaged 4.0 points on 63 percent shooting to help the Black Bears to a perfect week.
  • Started the week with six points and a career-high nine rebounds against UMass Lowell.
  • This is Gallego’s first career #AEHoops honor.
