BOSTON – UMass Lowell and UAlbany pulled away on the final day of the 2022 America East Indoor Track and Field Championships to secure the titles.
For the second time in program history, the River Hawks won the America East men’s indoor track and field championship. Their 215 points was the highest scoring total of any team since UAlbany in 2014.
It is the ninth consecutive women’s crown for the Great Danes and 11th in 12 tries. The team accrued 180 points over a two-day stretch.

In the final individual race of the weekend, UMass Lowell fifth year Derek Holmes broke the meet record in the men’s 3,000-meter run. The River Hawks took six of the top-eight spots in the event.
All-American Emily Mackay broke the meet record in the 800-meter run - a record that was held by 11-time All-American and Olympian Elle Purrier St. Pierre.
UMBC’s Jasmine Holland was named Most Outstanding Field Performer of the meet. After winning the long jump Friday, Holland took first in the triple jump on Saturday.
UMBC freshman Caitlyn Bobb claimed three awards. She was named Most Outstanding Track Performer, Most Outstanding Rookie and received the Coaches’ Award for compiling the most points in the meet. Bobb was part of UMBC’s record-breaking 4x400m relay team which capped the championship with a 3:44.39 race.
UAlbany grad student Jan Michael Gutierrez Almedina was named Most Outstanding Track Performer for the second time in nine months after receiving the award at #AETF outdoors.
Fellow Great Dane Robert Blue received Most Outstanding Field Performer honors after winning the triple jump with a record 51'8.5" jump on Sunday.
UMass Lowell distance runner Chris Alfond received the Coaches’ Award while Travis Robinson was named Most Outstanding Rookie after winning his first America East gold medal in the shot put with a 55’3” toss on Sunday.
Both of the conference’s Elite 18 recipients hold perfect 4.0 GPAs. UAlbany graduate student Sydney Coddington is majoring in political science while Binghamton grad student Evan Tuthill is studying sustainable communities.
The winning coaching staffs earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
