2022 #AETF Championships Off and Running

BOSTON – New records, sand storms and first-time champions highlighted the first day of the 2022 America East Track and Field Championships.
 
After the first of two days of competition, UMass Lowell and New Hampshire top the standings.

Ludith Campos defended her weight throw title in record-breaking fashion. The UAlbany junior’s throw of 67’11.5” broke the record by nearly three feet.
 

 
Casey Gribben won his third consecutive pole vault title with his winning height of 15’9” – his best-ever mark at the championship. The Binghamton senior is the fourth pole vaulter to win three-straight golds.
 

 
UMass Lowell’s Patrick Pang became the first River Hawk to win the men’s weight throw. Pang tossed 58’9.5” to win by over two feet.
 

 
 
More Day 1 Highlights
  • Maine’s Yasmen Farag won the pole vault, clearing 12’3.5”.
  • Binghamton senior Jake Restivo and UAlbany sophomore Louis Gordon both jumped 23’10.75” in the long jump but Restivo’s last jump of 23’2.9” gave him the tiebreak and gold medal.
  • Maine senior Katherine Cowan won the pentathlon with 3,491 points, winning all three field events.
  • UMass Lowell took the top-six spots in the men’s 5,000m for a total of 36 points. Chris Alfond led the way followed by John Riley as they ran the third and fourth-fastest times in championship history.
  • Jasmine Holland became the first UMBC Retriever since 2005 to win the women’s long jump.
  • The Bearcats beat the distance medley relay record as Dan Schaffer took the lead in the final 100 meters.
  • The Bearcats completed the sweep in the event as the quartet of Aziza Chigatayeva, Hillary Abankwa, Stephanie Cassens and Emily Mackay finished first.
