#AEBASE Season Underway; NJIT Wins Opening Series

BOSTON – The first pitch of baseball season was thrown last Friday as seven #AEBASE programs started their 2022 campaigns.
 
NJIT took two of three from Gardner-Webb while Binghamton and Stony Brook found the win column against Lamar and McNeese State, respectively. UMBC plays Maryland Wednesday afternoon and Hartford begins its season at Clemson this weekend.
 
 
The preseason poll was announced on Feb. 4.
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEBASE this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEBASE Weekly Award Winners – Feb. 22
Player of the Week
David Marcano, NJIT – Gr., Shortstop, Katy, Texas
  • Slashed .385/.467/.538 in 2-1 week.
  • Marcano drove in three runs and scored a pair.
  • This is his first career weekly honor.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Ryan Fischer, NJIT – Jr., Right-Handed Pitcher, Whitehouse Station, N.J.
  • Tossed six innings in his season debut – a win over Gardner-Webb.
  • Fischer allowed just one run on three hits while striking out 11.
  • This is his first Pitcher of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Colton Book, Stony Brook – Fr., Left-Handed Pitcher, Manheim, Pa.
  • Entered a one-run ballgame on Saturday and tossed five scoreless innings to earn the win.
  • Book allowed just two hits, no walks and struck out four.
