Vermont Edged 2-1 by #3 Syracuse in NCAA Quarterfinals

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Vermont’s impressive season came to an end on Saturday, falling 2-1 in a hard-fought battle to No. 3 Syracuse in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
 
The Catamounts conclude their season with a 16-4-2 overall record and became the second America East program in the last ten years to reach the NCAA Quarterfinals, joining UMBC in 2014.

Syracuse grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute as Curt Calov sent a corner kick into the far corner of the net. UVM responded in the 23rd minute as Daniel Pacella ripped a shot from outside the 18 to tie it 1-1. The Orange took the lead back at 41:36 and Vermont had multiple chances to draw even in the final 20 minutes but was unable to break down the Syracuse defense.
 
The Catamounts finished with six shots and six corner kicks in the contest while the Orange had nine shots and five corner kicks.
