Women's Basketball 12/27/2022 12:52:56 PM Women’s #AEHoops Week 7: Conference Plays Gets Underway This Week BOSTON – Vermont posted one of the most impressive wins for the conference this season while Binghamton, New Hampshire and UMBC also came away with victories in the final contests before conference play gets underway on December 29. Vermont blew out Holy Cross 64-34 in Worcester on Tuesday. Three players scored in double figures, led by Anna Olson with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists as UVM dropped the Crusaders to 8-3 on the season. UNH edged Merrimack 63-60 for its fifth victory of the season, while Binghamton and UMBC both took down Hartford with little trouble. Maine had its contest at Milwaukee canceled due to an impending storm. UAlbany held a 34-32 halftime lead against 10-2 Syracuse, but the Orange took control in the second half. Conference play kicks off Thursday, Dec. 29 and continues on Jan. 1 this Sunday. Conference positioning will again prove key for the Jersey Mikes #AEPlayoffs. Every round of the Jersey Mikes #AEPlayoffs will take place on the higher seed’s home court and earning home court advantage will prove crucial once again. The league champion will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. The women’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 19. 2022-23 Weekly Award Winners (Dec. 27) Player of the Week Helene Haegerstrand, UAlbany – Sr., Forward, Stockholm, Sweden Finished with 19 points, five rebounds and two steals in a tough loss against Syracuse, which improved to 10-2. Helped UAlbany take a 34-32 halftime lead over the Orange and trail by just five after three quarters This is Haegerstrand’s second straight Women’s #AEHoops Player of the Week honor. Rookie of the Week Avery O’Connor, New Hampshire – Fr., Guard, Dedham, Mass. Led UNH with 13 points, eight rebounds, one block and one steal in win over Merrimack. Played a team-high 34 minutes, and went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. This is O’Connor’s first Women’s #AEHoops Rookie of the Week award.
