UVM Men's Soccer Faces Syracuse in NCAA Quarterfinals

BOSTON – UVM Men’s Soccer travels to face Syracuse in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Quarterfinals on Saturday at 2 p.m., with a trip to the College Cup on the line.
 
The Catamounts own a 16-3-2 record and are making the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals. They will square off against 16-2-4 Syracuse, who is seeded third overall in the tournament and looking to make its second-ever appearance in the College Cup after reaching in 2015.

UVM advanced to the Quarterfinals by taking down UCLA 3-0 at home last weekend. The Catamounts have scored three goals in each of their three NCAA contests, and their nine total goals lead the entire field this year. UVM opened their NCAA run by beating Quinnipiac 3-2 in overtime and then taking down #11 SMU 3-2 on the road in the Second Round.
 
Max Murray has a team-high ten goals and five assists on the season while Alex Nagy has a team-high 27 points this year thanks to nine goals and nine assists. America East Goalkeeper of the Year Nate Silveira owns a 0.66 GAA to go with a .776 save percentage.
 
The Orange advanced to the Elite Eight after a thrilling 1-0 win against No. 14 seed Cornell in the Sweet 16. They also earned a 2-1 overtime victory against Penn in the Second Round. Offensively, Levonte Johnson and Nathan Opoku have combined for 18 goals, 11 assists and 47 points while Rusell Shealy has a .829 save percentage, 0.61 GAA and ten shutouts this season.
 
The America East is the only conference in the nation that remains unbeaten and also had multiple teams selected in the 2022 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship. The America East is 3-0-1, with UVM going 2-0 and UNH going 1-0-1 as it failed to advance by falling in 12 rounds of penalty kicks against FIU. The conference was also just one of seven national to have multiple teams earn home games in the NCAA Championship this year.
